Q: How much money can I get with this program?

A: Terminal research (defined as directly benefiting your Thesis or Dissertation) is limited to a maximum award of $2000.00, while independent research is limited to $750.00 maximum award.

Q: Can I submit an application with a co-applicant or co-author?

A: Yes you can. Please specify those individuals on your application under the co-applicant information section.

Q: What is the date range that I can be reimbursed for?

A: Your reimbursement date starts the day that you SUBMIT (not start) your application and ends June 30. Any receipts that you are looking to be reimbursed for must fall within that date range.

Q: When will I be notified if I won an award?

A: We anticipate that the final award notifications will be made by November 2nd.

Q: When is my application due?

A: October 2, 2009 by 5:00pm Arizona Time

Q: How do I submit an application?

A: First, create an online profile. Then, go to www.nimble-net.com/gpsa to submit an application.

Q: Is a letter of intent due?

A: No. We no longer require a letter of intent.

Q: Do I need to submit my Vitae or Resume?

A: Yes! You will receive an e-mail requesting that information after you have submitted your application and after the application deadline.

Q: Who reviews my application?

A: Graduate students in your specified field (or closely related field).

Q: Will my adviser, committee chair, or someone else be required to submit a letter of recommendation?

A: Yes. Please indicate that person’s name and contact information in the requested field. We will be sending that person an e-mail requesting that information after the deadline.

Q: Am I required to have matching or outside funds?

A: While you are not required to have matching or outside funds, we highly suggest that you attempt to find outside funds as this makes your application more competitive (insofar that we can foresee you completing the entire project). However, outside funds can include your anticipated contributions to the project should you receive partial funding.

Q: Can funding be used for travel to the research site (i.e. gas money, tolls, airline tickets)?

A: Yes, funding can be used for travel if the travel relates to the research. However, grant funds can not be used for travel to conferences to present research.

Q: Can I apply for more than one grant? For example, I want to apply for a dissertation grant AND as a co-investigator on a separate research grant.

A: Individuals can apply for more than one grant, but the projects have to be absolutely different.

Q: If I have received a research grant from GPSA in past years, can I apply for another grant for this year?

A: Yes, there is no limit on applying in different years. However, the application cannot be for the same project that was funded in the past.

Q: I still have questions… What do I do?

A: Please e-mail the GPSA Director of Graduate Research at GPSAresearch@asu.edu or call the GPSA Office of Internal Affairs at 480-727-9871.
