"We want a language of that different yield. . . . a yield that returns us to our own sacredness, to a self-love and respect that will carry out to others."
Do those words from Linda Hogan's book Dwellings strike a chord in you? Does something in your bones whisper to you that the goals of writing and teaching writing lie somewhere beyond the AIMS test? Do you still remember why you wanted to be an English teacher? Do you want to spend five weeks doing meaningful writing and sharing writing ideas with veteran teachers, poets, and writers?
Then consider:ENG 494/594
(3 hrs undergraduate/graduate credit)If you are a teacher in the public schools (K-16) or an undergraduate English Education or Elementary Education major and want a class that lets you work on your own writing, develop and share writing activities for the classroom, and learn from writers, poets and veteran teachers, then sign up for ENG 494 (undergraduate - line # 67383 or ENG 594 (graduate - line # 68914).
Or if you have been through GPAWP and now you want time and support to work on your own writing portfolio or to develop writing curriculum for your classroom or to help with the Summer Institute or the YAWP (teenage) program, then sign up for ENG 594 (line #68914).
These classes run from June 1 to July 1, 2004 (Monday through Thursday, 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.) - concurrent with the GPAWP and YAWP summer institutes.
