Objectives:
*Students will brainstorm a list of holidays that bring back a strong memory.
*Students will take one strong memory and write a short, personal narrative.
*Students will be introduced to looking for word choice to strengthen the narrative.Students brainstorm a list of holidays or personal family celebrations to revive a strong memory. Using Mary Pope Osborne's Rocking Horse Christmas as a starter story, students will complete a shared practice web to review the story details. The independent practice will be to complete a story web of the student's personal memory. LDecember 8, 2005 the teacher's story is started in class for the first paragraph. Students then use independent practice to work on their stories. A Later activity reviews word choice with the Osborne book and overhead of: words (what we speak), pictures (what the words create in our minds), and feelings (generated by the pictures). This activity is completed over a series of sessions.
