Presentation Description:
This outline provides ideas on how to utilize the theme "work" to make writing real and meaningful to students and their families. Family and community members can share with young children work experiences they can write about, thus, allowing teachers, parents, and students to share concrete, meaningful, and important subjects not touched upon at school. In most children's literature or school curricula there is not much said or written about the finished products and services workers produce to benefit society. We will explore multi-genre writing (e.g., personal narratives, poetry, drama, songs, interviews, and drawings) to celebrate and honor the types of jobs the students' family members perform.
