Students write a simple sentence that describes the texture of an object. The teacher demonstrates one sentence, then the class does one together. After the activities, students write their own sentence. Activities to further discussion and sentence-writing: sing songs about the five senses, mystery bags (students feel objects and guess what it is, what we do with it and what it feels like), list describing words, send students on a treasure hunt in classroom with baggies (have them find three (3) different objects that have different textures), fill a grocery bag with different objects and have students sort/graph them, have them bring items from home that can fit in a plastic baggie and discuss texture the following day.Updated: December 8, 2005
