The Crawdad Campaign Tracking Dashboard from Crawdad Technologies LLC of Chandler, AZ scans and analyses press releases and web-log (blog) posts (supporter replies not currently included) from the Bush and Kerry 2004 presidential campaign websites. It automatically produces daily, objective, nonpartisan analysis of messages that drive the presidential contest. The Dashboard, based on Crawdad’s patent-pending communication analysis technology, is a first-of-its-kind system for tracking message dynamics. Based on the latest computerized natural language processing and network analysis techniques, the system provides daily one-week moving averages for several communication benchmarks for each source, including Focus: How much messages are structured and organized around particular ideas. Tone: The relative balance of positive versus negative language in messages. Intensity: The influence of positive/negative versus neutral language in messages. Mud Meter: The amount of negative language directed at the opponent. Top Words: A list of the ten words most responsible for tying together the messages. Two Weeks Trends: Shows two-week trends for the above benchmarks. Image Nets: Networks of important words that are strategically connected to Bush and Kerry by both sites. Focus, Tone, and Intensity benchmarks are compared to norms developed from a database of over 32,000 general news articles. The Dashboard is provided by Crawdad as a public service.
