April 30, 2004, ASU hosted a group of space pioneers and policy makers who explored the
challenges of the nation’s new Space Exploration vision as announced by President Bush in January.
Panel participants included newsman and historian Hugh Downs, Astronaut and NASA Chief Scientist
John Grunsfeld, Cosmos co-producer and NASA engineer Gentry Lee, Laurie Leshin, Director of
ASU Center for Meteorite Studies and Melissa Wallace, Aerospace Engineering Student.
Topics included the rationale, costs, and implementation of the vision and was moderated by
ASU President Michael Crow. Audience participation was encouraged, and several questions
submitted online were included in the discussion.
