Academic Curriculum

The rigorous curriculum reflects the distinguished quality consistent with ASU's Barrett, the Honors College (BHC).  The following non-college credit courses were offered during the 2007 program.  All 8th and 9th grade participants also took The Human Event, a humanities course unique to the BHC.

1 Week, 7th grade Courses

Participants chose one:
Perfecting Algebra
New Approaches to Problem Solving
Math in the Real World
Visualizing the X-Y Axis in Calculus

3 Week, 8th & 9th grade Elective Courses

Participants chose one:

Biology
Dissecting the iPod (Engineering)
Computer Digital Animation
Introduction to Design (Architecture)

3 Week, 8th & 9th grade The Human Event Course

All students took this unique BHC course.

This course teaches students to think critically by reviewing and discussing literature from historical and contemporary philosophers with different view points. The Human Event course offered for BSS was condensed to a three-week course and modified to meet the interest of a younger population. For the 2007 program, Harry Potter and Philosophy: If Aristotle Ran Hogwarts was introduced to compare the common human themes from the traditional course literature with more relative themes to the participants.

Participants will be evaluated by faculty during the program and will receive a copy of their evaluation after the program.

Participants also visited a number of academic facilities at ASU's campuses during the 2006 and 2007 programs. Click here for more information on these site visits.
