OUR LOCATION IN HISTORY
The Master in Teaching English as a Second Language (MTESL) program is located in the Department of English at Arizona State University. Our service learning internship project has been in operation since 2001, and has grown and flourished ever since.

OUR MISSION
The mission of the MTESL Service Learning Internship is to organize and provide ESL classes in the greater Phoenix area through which adult English language learners gain free access to high quality ESL instruction, and MTESL students gain valuable teaching experience.

THE ADULT AND FAMILY LITERACY PROJECT

The Adult and Family Literacy Project (AFLP) is a partnership between the ASU Department of English and two community organizations: the Salvation Army Citadel, and Betania Community Center. These two community organizations provide vital space, resources, and support for the MTESL Internship, and this year have connected over 70 English Language Learners from the Phoenix community with 20 ASU interns.
