NOTES

1. Students are responsible for working out with an English Education advisor all the courses needed to be able to student teach during the Fall or Spring of their senior year.

2. ENG 471 and ENG 480 and ENG 482 are prerequisites for student teaching. They must be completed before beginning student teaching. Incompletes must also be removed before beginning student teaching.

3. A minimum of 126 semester hours is required for graduation. A minimum of 50 upper-division coursework (300 or 400 level courses) is required for graduation. The 12 semester hours immediately preceding graduation must be resident credit.

4. ENG 200, 212, 215, 216, 217 satisfy General Studies. Requirements: Ll: Literacy and Critical Inquiry.

REQUIREMENTS

I. First-Year Composition (3-6 Hours). It does not count towards the General Studies requirements nor toward the English Education major.

ENG 101 and 102 (6 hours) OR ENG 105 (3 hours) OR Exemption (0 hours)

II. General Studies Program Requirements (35 hours minimum). See the ASU GENERAL CATALOG for specific requirements.

A. Literacy and Critical Inquiry (6 hours) One Ll course; one L2 upper-division course.

B. Numeracy (6 hours) One Mathematics course; one from either Statistics and Quantitative Reasoning or Computer Applications.

C. Natural Science (8 hours) Two Laboratory courses.

D. Social and Behavioral Sciences and Humanities and the Fine Arts (15 hours)

    A total of 15 hours must be completed in these two core areas. A minimum of six semester hours must be completed in one of these two core areas, and a minimum of nine semester hours must be completed in the other core area. In addition, three other requirements must be met.

    1. In one of these two core areas, two courses must be taken in the same department.
    2. In one of these two core areas, courses from at least two departments must be taken.
    3. At least one course of the 15 hours must be upper-division.

Arizona Certification Requirements

Arizona Teacher Proficiency Examination (ATPE) (professional knowledge only). Students must also meet the National and Arizona Constitution requirements prior to graduation. This can be met by (1) General Studies courses that can be used in Soc/Beh Sciences or elective courses, e.g., POS 110 or POS 310 and POS 311 or POS 417, (2) course equivalents, or (3) documented passing of appropriate constitution tests.
