Bio

Robert P. Spindler is University Archivist and Head, Department of Archives and Manuscripts, Arizona State University Libraries. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in American History from Boston University and his Master of Science from the Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science. He was formerly Project Archivist at the Peabody Museum of Salem, Massachusetts and has served as a professional consultant to the Polaroid Corporate Archives, Maine Maritime Museum, and the Milton H. Erickson Foundation. Rob is a past chair of the Society of American Archivists Nominations Committee, the Description Section and the Committee on Archival Information Exchange. In 1998 he was one of fifteen archivists awarded SAA’s C.F.W. Coker Prize for his participation in the international development team for the Encoded Archival Description (EAD) Tag Library. He has presented and published regularly on archival description, electronic records preservation, and internet ethics issues. Rob is co-chair of the planning committee for “Preservation and Access for Electronic College and University Records” with Jeremy Rowe.
