Typically, first-time ASU students will register for
5 or 6 classes, or 15-17 credit hours. What you decide is up to
you, but consider the following as you make your decision:
- You need 12 credit hours to be considered a
full-time student. This is important if you're an athlete,
an international student, or if you're receiving any type of
financial aid.
- You'll need to average 15 credit hours per
semester to graduate within four years. Of course, how long
it takes you to finish your degree depends largely upon how many
credits you transferred to ASU.
- One credit hour is equal to 50 minutes in class
each week. If you register for 15 credit hours, expect to be
in class about 15 hours per week. On top of that, you should
expect to study two hours per week for every hour you're in class.
Therefore, 15 credit hours would require you to commit 45 hours
per week to school.
The number of classes you choose to sign up for is
up to you, but it's important to be realistic. Other factors
like work, family responsibilities, commute time, and extracurricular
activities should also be considered as you make this decision.
