ASU West is committed to the mission of encouraging the educational, economic, cultural, and social development of the Phoenix metropolitan area it serves. ASU West seeks to offer high quality upper division undergraduate programs and graduate programs in the arts and sciences and in selected professional fields that meet the evolving needs of the community.

402 ASU West Background

ASU West, an upper level, non-residential campus of Arizona State University, was created by the legislature in 1984 and is located in the northwestern area of metropolitan Maricopa County between 43rd and 51st Avenues on Thunderbird Road. The campus occupies more than 300 acres, has state-of-the-art facilities, consists of seven major buildings (600,000 square feet), and is surrounded by a beautifully landscaped, natural environment. ASU West currently offers 28 baccalaureate degree programs and 3 master's degree programs, plus programs leading to professional certificates and minors (see ASU West Catalog for complete information). These degree programs are offered through five academic units, including: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, College of Human Services, Division of Collaborative Programs, and School of Management.

As a university committed to continual change, ASU West is designing an academic environment that meets the diverse needs of today's working adults, returning students, and continuing students. Academic programs, classes, and support services are innovative and focused on providing students with a high quality education. Classes are conveniently offered in the day and evening, as well as on weekend, through television (cable), the Internet, and off-campus locations.

With an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students, ASU West provides a small college atmosphere, yet students have the advantage of all the on- and off-campus resources of a nationally recognized, Research I and PAC 10 university. The campus and student support services consist of: Admissions and Records, Alumni Association, Associated Students of ASU West, ASU Shuttle Service between ASU West and Main, Bookstore, Campus Environment Team, Career Services and Personal Counseling Center, Center for Writing Across the Curriculum, Child Development and Family Studies Center, Computing Facilities and Services, Consortium for Interdisciplinary Projects and Residencies in the Arts, Copy Center, Credit Union, Margaret Francis Disability Resources Center, Enrollment Services, Event Scheduling, Extended Instruction, Financial Aid Services, Library Services, Mail/Postal Services, Multicultural Services, Ombudsperson Committee, Recruitment and Outreach Office, Research Consulting Center, Student Accounts, Student Development Services, Student Employment, Student Health Services, Student Life, Student Support Services Program, Tutoring and Testing Services, University Transitions Program, Veterans Services, Wellness and Fitness Facility, and Women's Resource Center (see ASU West Catalog for further information).

ASU West is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association. All Business and Accountancy degree programs in the School of Management are accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). In the college of Human Services, the Recreation and Tourism Management Department is accredited by the national Recreation and Park Association / American Association for Leisure and Recreation (NRPA/AALR) and the undergraduate Social Work program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
