Education:

B.A., Bucknell University (Economics and Mathematics)
Ph.D., University of Southern California (Political Economy and Public Policy)
Research interests: Board member of two social justice public policy advocacy organizations: Arizona Citizen Action and the Arizona Advocacy Network. Current focuses of my work include investigating the roots of our state budget crisis, "A 'State' of Disarray: Tax and Expenditure Policy in Arizona," and helping raise Arizona's unemployment compensation levels. Arizona's maximum unemployment benefit of $205 a week is the lowest in the country (Mississippi and Alabama have now passed us).

Research into corporate social responsibility as well as how social power, rather than productivity, impacts pay levels in labor markets.

Explores the lives of students in the BIS program through an institutional ethnography in a paper entitled, "A Matter of 'Degree;' How Students Combine Work with College."

Biographic information: Here's a quote that guides me: "The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point is to change it."

You'll find that philosophy undergirding my courses, my research and activism.

However, it also takes me to school, too. I ride my bike everywhere, but I also know that Force=MassxVelocity2, which means at least three things:

  1. I burn disproportionately more calories if I bike faster.
  2. It takes much less force (or energy) to propel a bicycle than a car.
  3. If a one to two ton motor vehicle hits me, I'm in trouble—so please share the road and remember how biking is a way to improve the environment and stay fit at the same time!
