Academic: ASU can be an academic challenge.
For the first time, you are not seeing your teachers daily. Your
living environment may not be conducive to studying. Maybe you
never learned the proper way to study. Gaining understanding of
presented material is a lot more than taking a highlighter and coloring
your textbook. How you process this
material is where the true insight takes place.
Your study skills may have
suited you in high school, but now that you are in college you
may need to develop new skills and strategies. There are a number of resources on campus
that can assist you with this process. Some of them deal with
tutoring; some of them deal with study skills; others will help
you with written assignments and give you additional perspective
on whether or not you have conveyed the necessary information in
a paper. Sometimes it is as complex as investigating different
ways of presenting arguments in a paper, while other times it is
as simple as knowing how to calculate a GPA and knowing when
pre-registration begins.
