TABLE: ADVISEMENT

WUG December 1994

What is the Advisement table?
The Advisement table contains information about the status of the Advising Requirements for a student. A student may have only one of these records per semester.

What is the key (unique identifier for a row) for Advisement?
Affiliate ID and semester is the key for the table.

What is the timing of the table?
An entry is made into the Advisement Table when the student is notified advisement is required. A record may also be created if an advisor records any information used or to be used in an advising session. The information for a semester will not be updated once the last processing day for that semester has passed.

Why would you use it?
Use the Advisement table to identify students that still need to be advised. This table also contains the id and name of the advisor that approved the advising session.

What should you watch out for?
If the name of the advisor was entered manually on the MACS screen, there is no edit check to ensure the name was typed in correctly. This means that one advisor may have several versions of his name entered. Also if the name was entered manually the sign off userid will not correspond to the name, but rather to the person that entered the data on the MACS screen.

The Mandatory Advising System was created in 1991 so data prior to this time does not exist.
