In August 2006, the Business Intelligence group in the University Technology Office (UTO) negotiated new pricing for the Hyperion 8.3 desktop (client) software, reducing the price over 50%. The Hyperion query software is and will continue to be the recommended query software for the ASU Data Warehouse.

The cost for a new Hyperion 8.3 desktop license has two components: a one-time license fee of $330, and annual maintenance of $120. Annual maintenance runs July 1 to June 30th, and the maintenance cost is prorated based on the month the license was purchased. For instance, if the license is purchased in July, the total initial cost is $450 ($330 license; $120 annual maintenance). If the license is purchased in August, the initial cost is $440 ($330 license; $110 for 11 months of annual maintenance). The annual maintenance of $120 would then be due the following July 1. Customers must maintain their license in order to use the software.

Hyperion licenses purchased under this pricing plan belong to a named person, not a particular computer, at ASU. Only the licensee may use the Hyperion software; however, one user may use it on multiple machines. This software is only available to ASU employed faculty and staff through a departmental purchase.
