CSW/SC 2012 Professional Development Conference

Polytechnic Campus

The CSW/SC Professional Development Conference at the Polytechnic Campus will take place in the Student Union Cooley Ballroom A.

Workshops will run from 8:30AM-3:30PM, with check-in beginnning at 8:00AM.

The conference and networking reception is open to all ASU faculty, staff, and students -- and is completely free of charge.

Per SPP 601, supervisors and employees are encouraged to work together to identify reasonable work modifications to allow the employee to attend conference workshops, without negatively impacting service.

Project Management & Managing Multiple Projects

Presenter: Joan Barnes

According the Project Management Institute (PMI), an international project management organization, a project is a temporary endeavor having a defined beginning and ending.  It is unique in that it is not a routine operation but a specific set of functions interconnected to accomplish a singular goal.  In today’s business environment; where projects vary in size, scope, and timelines; employees owning the ability to simultaneously manage and complete multiple projects possess an invaluable skill.  Handling multiple projects involves time management skills, empathetic stakeholder requirements, and an innate understanding of personal productivity limitations and constraints.  This important workshop will discuss practices, project characteristics, and time management methodologies that support handling of multiple projects. 
This workshop will teach you to:

  • Understand productivity limitations and constraints
  • Identify strategies for managing multiple projects
  • Define conflicts and challenges inherent in handling multiple projects
  • Utilize Tools, Tips and Techniques for Time Management of Multiple projects

Financial Education: Personal Financial Strategy: Adapting to the New Economy

Presenter: Jana LaVanway

Ten basic steps to create a foundation of properly structured financial strategy for individuals and families facing a new economy.  Topics will include in the area of budgeting, credit restoration, retirement strategies, and risk management.  This workshop is presented by The Dollarhide Financial Group, LLC, a general agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual).

Business Writing: Make It Crystal Clear: Strategies for Clarity in Business Communication

Presenter: Juliann White

Have you ever found yourself having to read something at work multiple times to figure out what the writer was trying to say?  Have you ever thought, “why don’t they just say what they mean?”  In this important workshop, Dr. Julianne White will discuss ways to identify problematic and fuzzy writing and will teach strategies for writing clearly and concisely to communicate more effectively.

 

Noon-1:00PM Reception & Key Note Address

Networking is an important part of career development, and with that in mind the CSW and the Staff Council invite you to join us for the conference lunch break.  This is a great opportunity to meet with fellow conference attendees, and enjoy a key note address by a special speaker.  A light lunch will be provided.  Seating for this event is limited and registration is required.

Please note the reception will take place in Ballroom B.

How to enroll…

  1. Visit the Training & Development website at http://cfo.asu.edu/cfo-training-development
  2. Click on the Employee LMS button
  3. Sign-in using your ASURITE username/password (unnecessary if already signed in)
  4. Click on Search for a Specific Class
  5. Type in “CSW” in the field next to Search for classes with these words in their titles:
  6. Click Search
  7. Click Select next to the session you would like to enroll in
  8. Click on Enroll in this class (link located at top right of screen)*

*Click Get on the waiting list if no seats currently available in a particular class. Should a seat become available you will automatically be enrolled and will receive a confirmation email. 

*Click Cancel from this class should you want to un-enroll in a workshop you have already enrolled in.

*Undergraduate and Graduate Students wishing to enroll, but who do not have access to the LMS system, should email their registration request to Karen.Engler@asu.edu or to lms@asu.edu
