CSW/SC 2012 Professional Development Conference

Downtown Campus

The CSW/SC Professional Development Conference at the Dowtown Campus will take place in Post Office 120.

Workshops will run from 8:30AM-3:30PM, with check-in beginnning at 8:00AM.

The conference and networking reception is open to all ASU faculty, staff, and students -- and is completely free of charge.

Per SPP 601, supervisors and employees are encouraged to work together to identify reasonable work modifications to allow the employee to attend conference workshops, without negatively impacting service.

Sustainability: Going Green in the Office

Presenter: JoEllen Alberhasky

ASU Human Resources established criteria for evaluating staff and management personnel on their sustainability efforts and conscientiousness. This session will provide concrete ideas and strategies on how to adopt sustainable office practices. You will leave with a plan of action which will allow you to communicate your support for ASU’s sustainability initiatives during your next employee evaluation.



Career Development: Updating One's Resume

Presenter: Cindy Parnell

Does your resume measure up to the competition?  Do you know how to best showcase your degree, past jobs, committee work and volunteer experience?  Learn the art of writing resumes and discovering what employers are really looking for!



Leadership Development: Understanding the Transition to Becoming a Leader

Presenter: Kevin Salcido

In this important workshop session, Kevin Salcido, AVP of Human Resources, will discuss  how one develops into a leader.  This workshop will explore the realities of transitioning from an individual contributor to a leadership role.
Topics to be explored include: 

  • The different roles of leaders in different levels of the organization
  • The responsibilities that one assumes when moving into leadership
  • The key skill sets to develop to prepare yourself for leadership
  • The importance of self knowledge in a leader role
  • The importance of continued self development a leader
  • The challenge of getting things done through others

This is a great workshop for those who are interested in progressing to leadership roles in their career.


Noon-1:00PM Reception & Key Note Address

Networking is an important part of career development, and with that in mind the CSW and the Staff Council invite you to join us for the conference lunch break.  This is a great opportunity to meet with fellow conference attendees, and enjoy a key note address by a special speaker.  A light lunch will be provided.  Seating for this event is limited and registration is required.



Financial Education: Personal Financial Strategy: Adapting to the New Economy

Presenter: Jana LaVanway

Ten basic steps to create a foundation of properly structured financial strategy for individuals and families facing a new economy.  Topics will include in the area of budgeting, credit restoration, retirement strategies, and risk management.  This workshop is presented by The Dollarhide Financial Group, LLC, a general agency of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual). 




Employee Assistance Office Presents: Wellness in the Workplace

Presenter: Jillian McManus

Time is a valuable commodity.  Too often our health and wellbeing gets placed at the bottom of the “to do” list in an effort to fit in everything else. However, without our health we are left with illness, something we have even less time for. 

What if you could improve your health and wellbeing at work? In this workshop we will explore the impact of using the typical work day to support our individual wellness goals.   Tips, strategies and resources will be shared to support individual goals, as well as ideas to support the wellbeing of groups department and the organization as a whole.

  3. Sign-in using your ASURITE username/password (unnecessary if already signed in)
  4. Click on Search for a Specific Class
  5. Type in “CSW” in the field next to Search for classes with these words in their titles:

  7. Click Select next to the session you would like to enroll in
  8. Click on Enroll in this class (link located at top right of screen)*

*Click Get on the waiting list if no seats currently available in a particular class. Should a seat become available you will automatically be enrolled and will receive a confirmation email. 

*Click Cancel from this class should you want to un-enroll in a workshop you have already enrolled in.
