Date Due: Sunday, September 19
Assignment:
During
this course you will create and implement the information architecture of
a website through five assignments. Read each of the five so that you will
know what is expected of your completed project. In this first assignment,
you will propose the website project you will work on. In your plan, include
the following information:
*the "client" (who you are creating it for)
*the audience (who will use the information/content of the site)
*the purpose (why the client wants/needs the site, why the audience will use
the site)
*description of the content type (text, images, audio files, etc.--summary
only, you will go into more detail about the content later)
*is it a new site or a revision of an existing site
NOTE: Each of you come to the course with a different level
of experience and expertise with creating websites. Propose a plan that will
stretch your current level of skills and knowledge. For example, if you are
unfamiliar with metadata you may want to concentrate on create and implement
metadata on your site (or use one of the industry standards). Or you may want
to experiment with creating an XML site.
If you are interested in created a dynamic site, contact me prior to submitting
this assignment and we'll discuss revising the requirements of the assignments
to fit your plan. However, there are 2 caveats to this: ASU does not provide
students with access to server space for this type of site. In addition, this
isn't a class in database design or scripting. If you want to explore this
option, you will need to have access to an ISP that allows dynamically driven
sites and be able to demonstrate that you have the knowledge to implement
it.
If you are unfamiliar with HTML or have never built a website, contact me
as soon as possible.
Format: Submit your website project plan as a text document. Be sure to include the items listed above. Also include one or two paragraphs describing how your proposed project will challenge and stretch your current skills.
Grading: 10 points
