Task: Part I--Identify the industry area within which you want to work and one or more organizations in which you would like to work. Track these companies and their financials during the course, using the financial resources available at Yahoo’s website, finance.yahoo.com. Print, at minimum, the following information [you must STAPLE/ATTACH a TYPED cover page to the document to get credit for the assignment]:

INTAKE/IDEAL JOB EXERCISE

Task: A career is not a job. A career includes everything you do throughout your personal and professional life. In the following exercise, identify the factors you feel are important in creating the best possible career for yourself....including an ideal job that is compatible with all of the other elements. You must STAPLE a TYPED cover page to your 3 - 5 page paper to get credit for the assignment.

Conceptually and operationally define, in a typed, outline format:

  1. Your core values (3 - 5) and explain them.
  2. Your life goals (3 - 5) and explain them.
  3. The critical parameters for defining your ideal job and explain them.
  4. The critical parameters for living a fulfilling personal life and explain them.
  5. What are the "non-negotiables" in your life? Prioritize the following:
    1. Pay - minimum
    2. Family time - minimum
    3. Vacation time - minimum
    4. Leisure time - maximum number of hours at work each week

    7. Recognition - type of recognition

O*NET PROJECT

Task: Find, print (from the O*Net website at http://online.onetcenter.org/) and hand in the first page of the detailed report for Industrial-Organizational Psychologists. You must STAPLE a TYPED cover page to the document to get credit for the assignment. You will be tested on this information in Test II.


SIOP PROJECT

Due Date: 09/24/12
Points: Pass/Fail
Task: Find, print (from the SIOP website at http://www.siop.org/) and hand in the first page of the 2009 Salary Survey of SIOP Members [the first page of the Introduction or just the Abstract ... either will do]. You must read the complete, detailed survey because you will be tested on it in Test II. You must STAPLE a TYPED cover page to the document to get credit for the assignment.[Note: Please do not email me or my TA if you can not find it. It means that you are not looking hard enough or using much logic/reason to find it on the SIOP website. I assure you, it is there].


ANNUAL CREDIT REPORT PROJECT

Due Date: 10/01/12
Points: Pass/Fail
Task: Go to Annual Credit Report website and print a copy of the first page of your credit report [it is free] with your credit score [it will cost you $6.00 to $7.00 to get your credit score] from one of the 3 major credit reporting organizations [Experian, Equifax, & TransUnion]. [Please insure you black out your social security number and account numbers]. You must STAPLE a TYPED cover page to the document to get credit for the assignment. In addition, please go to the following pages on Wikipedia's website and read the entries on Credit Reports/History, Credit Scores, FICO, and Credit Risk. You will be tested on this information in Tests II, III & IV.

BEHAVIORAL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS PROJECT

Due Date: 11/05/12
Points: Pass/Fail
Task: Write two (2) Behavioral Interview Questions, along with the related prompts and response rating scales [as were described in lecture]. These questions must tap into two entirely different functional constructs which are important for the job(s) you will be seeking upon graduation. [You may want to look at the following websites or others for ideas in writing your questions. However, please do not merely copy questions from these websites, because I will be disinclined to give you any credit for the assignment. Also be aware of the fact that, in addition to the Behavioral Interview Questions [which the websites provide], you must also provide the follow-up prompts/questions, and the response rating scale (with semantic anchors). Finally, you must STAPLE a TYPED cover page to the document to get credit for the assignment.

Please make sure you set aside the full 2 hours for the task and write the time, date and classroom in your calendar. Insure you do not miss your scheduled appointment. If you need to reschedule, you must notify Joe O'Donnell at least 24 hours in advance of your original appointment. INTERVIEWING, RESUME WRITING & BUSINESS ETIQUETTE WORKSHOP [or another of your choice to replace the Business Etiquette workshop] PROJECT

Points: 2 Bonus Pts. each for Interviewing, Resume Writing & Business Etiquette for Job Success [for a maximum of 6 Bonus Pts.]
Task: Attend any of the Career Services [ASU Career Services Announcements and Events] workshops on Interviewing, Resume Writing, and Business Etiquette for Job Success [or another of your choice to replace the Business Etiquette workshop] and get written documentation that you attended [from the workshop leader], along with contact information, and you can earn up to 6 Bonus Points. You must STAPLE a TYPED cover page to the documentation to get credit for the assignment.


LEADERSHIP PROJECT
Recovering from a Blunder or Fall from Grace

Due Date: 12/03/12
Points: 1 Bonus Pt.
Task: Identify a leader [business, political, religious, etc.] whose blunder or fall from grace was widely publicized in the media over the past couple of years. Briefly describe the situation and then describe how the individual could have dealt with the situation in a way that could have maintained his/her credibility. [Please note: recommending that the individual not engage in the original misbehavior is not a solution. Assume they engaged in the behavior. Now, what could they do to maintain or repair their credibility.] The paper should be no longer than 2 pages. You must STAPLE a TYPED cover page to the document to get extra credit points for the assignment.
