We believe that Community Psychology online, a result of collaboration of about 80 professors, community professionals, undergraduate and graduate students, may provide you with a solid knowledge about community psychology around the world. We want to show that your personal involvement in local communities may lead to social change and make the world a better place to live. Our hope is that this course will empower you to actively participate in community life.
The course aims at achieving 3 out of the 8 Design Imperatives set by ASU in our model for a new American University. We intend to reach out to a greater diversity of students, expose them to a diversified group of speakers, and create an effective learning environment by incorporating the newest advancements in informational technology (Design Imperative 5). By concentrating on vital community issues and by creating for students an opportunity to get involved in addressing those issues, by providing them with knowledge and skills essential for future community leaders, we implement the concept of social embeddedness (Design Imperative 7).
By presenting authors representing 10 countries, professionals representing various social groups and minorities, and by connecting students with an international network of university-community partnership, we illustrate the real meaning of global engagement (Design Imperative 8).
