How
to Construct a Truth Table
- Assign
symbols to each simple statement.
- Make a column
for each symbol.
- Make a column
for each compound statement.
- Determine the
number of rows needed. If n is the number of symbol letters,
then is
the number of rows needed.
- Enter the
initial T or F values for each symbol.
- The first
half of the rows in the first column are filled in with T’s and second
half with F’s.
- For the
second column, the first quarter of the rows are filled in with T’s,
the second quarter with F’s, the third quarter with T’s, and the fourth
quarter with F’s.
- For the
third column, the first eight of the rows are filled in with T’s, the
second eighth with F’s, and so on.
