Signs and Symptoms

 

Postpartum depression may seem to be the "baby blues" at first--but the signs and symptoms are more intense and last longer. They may also interfere with the mother's ability to function (13).

 

Other signs and symptoms may include:

  • Feeling exhausted all the time

  • A lack of joy in life
  • A sense of failure as a mother
  • A lack of concern for baby or self
  • Too much concern for baby
  • A lack of interest in family or friends
  • No interest in sex
  • See-sawing mood swings
  • Impaired thinking or lack of concentration
