Training Programs
Practicum Training Program
C&C offers a 9-month, advanced training experience for ASU students enrolled in the Master of Counseling, Master of Social Work, and Ph.D. in Psychology graduate programs. Practicum counselors are trained to perform intake assessments, individual therapy, and outreach to university students. They participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss new cases and may have the opportunity to co-lead a psychotherapy or psychoeducational group.
Predoctoral Psychology Internship Program
The American Psychological Association (APA) accredited internship training program prepares psychologists who are competent to practice in a university counseling center or a similar setting that requires the following skills: provision of outpatient individual and group therapy, assessment of presenting issues and appropriate treatment modalities, consultation, psychoeducational outreach programming, and supervision of counselors in training. Interns choose among a variety of focus areas for specialized training. The internship is a 2000-hour, twelve-month training experience and there are three positions each year.
Postdoctoral Psychology Residency Training Program
The Counseling & Consultation residency training program is designed to provide advanced training for professionals seeking a career in university counseling center practice. C&C has one funded position each year. The resident consolidates existing skills, develop skills in a professional interest area, and works to develop a unique professional identity. The twelve-month, 2000-hour program meets the post doctoral supervised experience requirements for licensure in Arizona.
Psychiatric Resident Training
In a collaboration between Counseling & Consultation, ASU, and the Maricopa County Integrated Health System, C&C offers training to an advanced psychiatric resident in the MIHS Psychiatric Residency Program. The resident may gain specialized eating disorders training and experience and/or participate in a psychotherapy and psychopharmacology rotation. The resident is supervised by board-certified psychiatrists and licensed psychologists.
