Predoctoral Psychology Internship Training Program

July 2005

Dear Internship Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in our APA-accredited predoctoral internship training program. The internship at Counseling and Consultation (C&C) is a 2000 hour, 12-month training program. The staff represent a wide range of theoretical orientations, including psychodynamic, systemic, developmental, integrative, feminist, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal approaches. Clinical staff include social workers, psychiatrists, counselors, and psychiatrists. Therefore, the training environment offers the richness of a multidisciplinary approach.

Our program is designed to provide emerging professional psychologists a time to solidify existing skills, learn new competencies, and integrate their identity as a psychologist. To enhance and support that process, the training staff provide a safe and caring atmosphere while exposing interns to the variety of roles and experiences typical of university counseling center psychologists.

C&C's site in the centrally located Student Services building, ASU-Tempe campus, is a modern facility designed specifically for training. Multiple individual and group therapy rooms equipped with one-way mirrors and videotaping equipment are available for trainees. Each intern has a private office equipped with videotaping equipment, a personal computer, printer, and a small tv/vcr used to review videotaped client sessions. Interns can access the university mainframe, electronic mail, and the university library system.

We know that the application process is very stressful, and we would like to provide you with as much information as possible to assist in your decision making process. I will be happy to answer any of your questions about our training program. The quickest way to reach me is by email (jsavage@asu.edu) but you are also welcome to call me at 480-965-6146. You are also invited to contact any of our staff or current interns. If you have questions about receipt of application materials, please contact Carla Proby (carla.proby@asu.edu), 480-965-2103.

Again, thank you very much for your interest in our training program!

Sincerely,

Julie Savage, Ph.D.
Training Director
