Graduation Filing Deadlines

You must file to graduate by the deadline in order for your name to appear in the Commencement and Convocation program. Please visit the ASU Graduation Office for more information about filing for graduation, diplomas, and other relevant matters.

The University Commencement Ceremony is the campus-wide ceremony with all colleges and all degree programs invited to participate. The President of Arizona State University confers degrees upon graduating students at this ceremony. For more information visit the ASU Office of University Ceremonies web page.

Note: There is no longer an ASU Commencement ceremony for summer graduates. Students graduating in the summer can attend Spring or Fall Commencement and Convocation ceremonies.

College of Public Programs Convocation

Note: Effective Fall 2004, students in the Hugh Downs School of Human Communication, School of Justice and Social Inquiry, and American Indian Studies will graduate through the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The College’s Convocation ceremony individually recognizes undergraduate, master, and doctoral degree candidates. Names are read as the graduates cross the stage to receive congratulations from Dean Chapman and the chair/director of their academic unit.

Who Can Participate?

All COPP students who have filed for graduation.

Students who have less than 12 credit hours to complete their degree but have not filed to graduate. Please note that your name will not appear in the Commencement/Convocation program until the semester you actually graduate.

Invitations are mailed to students who file for graduation by the deadline. If you did not receive an invitation, please pick one up in the Dean's Office, Wilson Hall Room 235.

Academic Regalia

Graduates must wear an official ASU cap and gown during the Commencement and Convocation ceremonies. Tassels are worn on the left until the degrees have been officially conferred. Please make cap and gown arrangements with the ASU Bookstore.

Honor Cords

The Graduation Office (located in the Student Services Building: SSV 140) distributes Honor cords when students apply for graduation.

Undergraduate and master diplomas are mailed approximately 10 weeks after the end of the semester to the permanent address on file with the Registrar’s Office.
