The 2007 Nonprofit Compensation and Benefits Study was published May 2007. This 99-page report contains compensation data for 8,375 nonprofit employees across 82 different nonprofit positions. The report also contains findings on employee retirement, insurance, paid time-off, and detailed salary and demographic information on executive directors.

One key finding from the report showed average executive director salary was $86,355. However, executive director compensation varies widely based on organization budget size and type. In addition, average executive director salaries in Maricopa County were $90,151, and $77,300, in Pima County, a difference of 14.25 percent. Executive director salaries in Maricopa County have increased an average of 10.24 percent from the 2004 survey of only Maricopa County executive directors.
