The Center has the pulse of the sector because it is the First Responder for any inquiries about nonproft leadership and management. In 2012 our seasoned Professionals-in-Residence responded to well over 250 requests for assistance and information about the nonproft sector and capacity building.

Throughout 2012, many organizations began building their capacity by using the Principles of Effectiveness self-assessment tool to help them create a comprehensive plan for improvement across ten evaluation areas. The tool is available online and is a critical “frst step” in understanding an organization’s needs before embarking on such capacity buildingactivitiesas strategicplanningandboardgovernance.

The Center also completed numerous projects within its

Capacity Support Services during 2012. These services are offered on a contractual basis and assist an organization through a specifc issue or process such as strategic planning, mergers, fnancial management concerns, policy development and many more.

The Center also engaged in numerous special projects in 2012 such as the ATLAS Program with the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust to build the capacity of six grantee organizations, as well as the Freeport McMoRan Rural Capacity Building Program to provide training and technical assistance to nonprofts in mining communities throughout Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado.
