In early 2013, the Center launched the Scope of the Arizona Nonproft Sector a web-based, interactive tool for understanding and researching nonproft organizations. It includes four major sections:

Nonproft Sector Profle – Data on the number and types of Arizona nonproft organizations, including assets, revenues, and expenditures. Interactive charts list nonproft organizations by county and sub-sector.

Grantmaking Report – Information on two specifc types of organizations: grantmakers, which make grants to several different nonprofts, and single organization support entities, which exist to make grants to a single, predefned organization. Arizona’s top grantmakers and largest single organization support entities are listed.

Arizona Philanthropy – The latest research and data on the charitable giving and volunteering of Arizona residents, including how much and where Arizonans contribute, the number of volunteer hours donated, and the value of contributed time.

EconomicContribution –Details theeconomiccontributionof the nonproft sector toArizona’s economy, including employment, revenue, and expenditures, and examines the resiliency of the sector through the economic recession.

In conjunctionwith our “Nonproft CapacityMatters” reception event in Tucson, the Center published Scope of the Nonproft Sector: Southern Arizona Edition , a report containing information on the nonproft sector and philanthropy in Pima, Cochise, and Santa Cruz counties.

Nearly 240nonproft organizationsparticipated inour compensation and benefts online survey, and in January, the 2013 Nonproft Compensation and Benefts Report was released. This 115-page report helps organizations make informed decisions by providing compensation data across 50+ nonproft job positions, as well as fndings on employee retirement, insurance, paid time off, and other benefts. A companion highlight publication reports trends in nonproft CEO compensation, demographics, and experience. Compensation and benefts research is an ongoing project of the Center that began in 2001; the 2013 edition is the ffth in the series.

The “Research Friday” blog series features highlights from research reports/studies and discusses implications for day-to-day nonproft practice. This highly-popular blog features a wide-range of engaging and innovative contributions from professors, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, nonproft professionals, volunteers, and nonproft consultants.

The ASU Lodestar Center continues to be a hub for knowledge about the nonproft and philanthropic sector, helping practitioners, volunteer leaders, and philanthropists make decisions, clarify issues and policies, and improve day-to-day practice.
