Annual Conference on Nonproft Sustainability Strategies

The ASU Lodestar Center held its 20th Annual Nonproft Conference on Sustainability Strategies on October 18–19, 2012 at the ASU West Campus. This year’s theme was “Unleashing Human Potential for the Next 100 Years.” Nearly 225 nonproft leaders, community partners, students and professionals from across all sectors – business, government, general public, and nonproft/philanthropic groups – attended this year’s conference. The conference was made possible through sponsorships from BMO Private Bank/BMO Harris Bank, Arizona Community Foundation, Arizona Lottery, Phoenix Business Journal, Alliance Magazine, Steelcase, and Alternative Print and Copy.

The conference featured the following keynote sessions and speakers: Dr. Edgar Cahn, the father of the time banking system; TomSuddes, founder of The Suddes Group; and Rosetta Thurman, founder of Thurman Consulting. Throughout the conference, a variety of highly-engaging workshops were available for attendees, including a special presentation by the ASU Lodestar Center regarding its release of the Scope of the Arizona Nonproft Sector . This newweb-based, interactive tool for understanding and researching Arizona’s nonprofts is now available. The conference concluded with a session by Merl Waschler, President and CEO of the Valley of the Sun United Way.

Annual Forum on Nonproft Effectiveness

The annual Spring Forum provides a setting for the exchange of ideas, where an array of infuential and thought-provoking speakers address cutting-edge issues that affect all nonprofts. In April of 2012, our “Nonproft Capacity Matters” reception took place in Tucson. During the event, representatives from the Center were available to share about the Nonproft Management Institute’s nonproft management professional development certifcate offering in Tucson which features a variety of courses throughout the year. The full portfolio of Center research, trainings, and resources were also made available for event attendees.

A special release of the Scope of the Nonproft Sector: Southern Arizona Edition , offered a detailed profle of Southern Arizona’snonproft organizationsandprivate foundations. Inall, nearly 200 community leaders, nonproft and corporate professionals attended from around the Greater Tucson area.
