Nonproft Management Institute (NMI)

Under new staff leadership, the Nonproft Management Institute (NMI) redesigned its curriculum and completed its 13th year of operation by offering professional development education courses and workshops in both face-to-face and online environments.

In January 2012, NMI began offering a new and revised Certifcate in Nonproft Management comprised of eight highly-engaging, relevant courses. Thiscertifcate isdesigned tomeet theprofessional needs of today’s nonproft professional. A variety of instructional methods are used to provide engaging, practice-oriented learning experiences that are focused on knowledge, skills, and techniques that adults can immediately implement.

NMI has expanded its course locations to various nonproft organization locations throughout the Phoenix metropolitan and greater Tucson areas. Current locations include: A New Leaf (Mesa), Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix (Phoenix), Disability Empowerment Center (Phoenix), Junior Achievement of Arizona (Tempe), St. Mary’s FoodBank Alliance (Phoenix), University of Phoenix Center (Phoenix), Del E. Webb Center (Phoenix), Fresh Start Women’s Foundation (Phoenix) and ASU School of Social Work (Tucson).

new courses

There are several new courses that have recently been developed and are now being offered. “Strategic Planning Boot Camp (NMI 227)” is a three-day intensive boot camp that alllows participants to learn how to think strategically and lead strategic change within their organization. Another new course is “Grants Development and Proposal Writing (NMI 220),” which features two days of instruction that will assist grant-seekers to improve their proposal writing skills in all areas of the grant proposal process, as well as experience a higher level of confdence in their ability to effectively seek and secure grant funding.

new instructors

Since March 2011, NMI has hired an additional 22 new instructors. NMI instructors are both current and former nonproft executives, consultants, attorneys, accountants, fundraising professionals, HR specialists and other professionals with a specifc expertise. Some NMI instructors also teach within various academic disciplines, including in the nonproft bachelor’s and master’s programs at Arizona State University.

In 2012, the ASU Lodestar Center awarded the Certifcate in Nonproft Leadership & Management to 15 new graduates through the Nonproft Management Institute (NMI).
