Introduces the system of public, nonprofit, and private sector resources and services comprising contemporary communities. Organized into three modular units with emphasis on the delivery of services in the parks and recreation, tourism, and nonprofit professions.
NLM 301 Sustainable Communities (3)
Fall and Spring Semester
An interdisciplinary examination of communities past and present, focusing on the relationships between institutions and social, economic and environmental sustainability.
NLM 302 Inclusive Community Development (3)
Fall and Spring Semester
Examines the characteristics of diverse populations across the lifespan to effectively develop inclusive community services and facilities.

NLM 160 Voluntary Action and Community Leadership (3)
Spring Semester
An introduction to community service and leadership; considering individual motivations and social implications of voluntary behavior and social involvement.

The nonprofit sector and its role in developing the cultural, economic, and social impact on society.
NLM 300 Fund Raising and Resource Development (3)
Fall Semester
Theory and practice of philanthropy, resource acquisition methods through ethical fund raising, and earned income approaches for nonprofit organizations.

Fall and Spring Semester
Foundations for effective program planning in varied leisure delivery systems.
NLM 310 Volunteer Management (3)
Spring Semester
Administration of volunteer service programs. Studies and analyzes the volunteer personnel process.
Nonprofit Leadership and Management Professional Classes: NLM 402 Assessment and Evaluation (3)
Fall and Spring Semester
Introduces applied leisure research with emphasis on program evaluation, research design, data collection techniques, and data analysis.
NLM 403 Pre-Internship Workshop (1)
Fall, Spring and Summer Semester
Introduces and prepares professional status students for the Senior Internship. Includes both workshop and online delivery.
NLM 410 Social Entrepreneurship (3)
Spring Semester
An exploration into social innovation that positively impacts the common good; business concepts and skills related to earned income strategies.
NLM 430 Managing Nonprofit Organizations (3)
Spring Semester
Analyzes administrative structures, decision making, and program delivery within nonprofit organizations. Prerequisites: NLM 220; senior standing.
NLM 463 Senior Internship (12)
Fall, Spring and Summer Semester
Supervised guided experience in selected agencies. May be repeated for credit.
