12th Annual Forum on Nonprofit Effectiveness

Our Mosaic Sector: Strategies for
Achieving Cultural Relevancy


Friday, March 5, 2010 • Phoenix Convention Center, North Building

This exciting day of learning includes analyzing established models, assessing one’s own organizational, cultural relevancy, identifying power structures in society and developing strategies for organizational effectiveness.

The keynote speaker for this year's Forum is Dr. Omowale Satterwhite, Ph.D., Founder and senior advisor of the National Community Development Institute. Keep checking back for more details as they emerge!

Session #1 – “The Local Experience” Panel Presentation

Learn from local nonprofit organization representatives as they share their experience in developing a process for transforming their organization into one committed to cultural relevancy.

10:30 - 10:45 a.m.

Break

10:45 - 11:45 a.m.

Session #2 – Cultural Relevancy Assessment

Review various assessments designed to evaluate your organization’s effectiveness with cultural relevancy. Identify an assessment tool’s benefits and limitations. Determine how your organization might use or adapt the tool for your particular work environment.

11:45 a.m. - noon Break
12:00 - 1:30 p.m. Lunch and Keynote Address by Dr. Omowale Satterwhite, Founder and Senior Advisor, National Community Development Institute
1:30 - 1:45 p.m. Break
1:45 - 2:45 p.m.

Session #3 – Power Structures

Participate in a facilitated dialogue about the many power structures that impact your organization’s ability to be culturally relevant. Brainstorm with peers to identify solutions toward your organization’s effectiveness in this area.

2:45 - 3:00 p.m. Break
3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Session #4 – Next Steps

Formulate next steps to implement a process with your organizational leadership and stakeholders to further embed cultural relevancy into your organization.
