About Jessica Hirshorn:
My life mission is to promote intercultural understanding and communication between the world's peoples. From the time that I was a small child I was interested in learning about the world's cultures and people. By age 16, I had grown bored of my suburban Chicago lifestyle and sweet talked my parents into letting me spend a year studying in Israel. My year in Israel was perhaps my most influential year and paved the way for all that came next. During college I was very active in the International Student Organization and had friends from many different countries. After befriending students from India, I decided to study aboard in India. Three days after graduating from college I left for the Peace Corps in the Federated States of Micronesia, where I taught English, did youth development work and provided the locals with something to gossip about. Upon returning from the Peace Corps I was a bit lost and directionless and after giving it a lot of thought came up with my mission statement of helping to foster intercultural understanding. I hold a doctorate in Foundations of Education with an emphasis in Multicultural Education and Sociology of Education and a master's degree in International and Intercultural Management.  Today, I am fulfilling my mission by teaching in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies. I love ethnic food and am always up for a good meal. I enjoy traveling, meeting people, scuba diving, watching foreign films and reading multicultural children's books to my wonderful daughter!
