The Golden Opus Award for Teaching Excellence


In 1996, the ASU chapter of the Society of Physics Students instituted a new award to be bestowed upon one faculty member from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, voted on by SPS members, recognizing excellence in teaching.

The 2004 recipient was Dr. Richard Lebed. Dr. Lebed was recognized by his Mathmatical Methods students for his excellence in teaching.

The 1998 recipient was Dr. William Kaufmann. Dr. Kaufmann was recognized by his students from his quantum mechanics and nuclear and particle physics classes for his dedication to the academic success of his students and his willingness to help students with any physics related problem.

The 1996 recipient was Dr. Otto Sankey. Dr. Sankey was recognized by his quantum mechanics students for his enthusiasm in teaching and ability to present complex concepts in a lucid manner.
