1. Do I have to know how to fence in order to join?

No; our experienced coaches and club members are happy to provide entry-level instruction.  The club has a wide level of ability and experience levels, and provides a friendly, competitive environment.

 

2. Do you have to be a USFA member to join Salle Diablo?

No.  However, participation in USFA events (such as Arizona Division tournaments) do require USFA membership.  Click here to access the USFA website, then click on "Joining the USFA".

 

3. Do you have to have any personal equipment?

Male personal body protection is not provided but required, women's chest protectors are available.  No other personal equipment is required for use within the club during open hours.  However, fencers participating in tournaments may need to supply personal equipment that meet USFA standards, though club equipment may be available for use.

 

4. Who is eligible to join Salle Diablo?

ASU students, faculty, and alumni are eligible members.

 

5.  Who can participate in open fencing?

Along with club members, guests may fence after consultation with the head coach.

 

6. What are the club fees for ASU students and non-ASU students?

ASU students: $25 semester.  Non-ASU students: $7 entrance fee at the recreation center.

 

7.   Are there any age/ability restrictions?

Prospective members should be in good physical condition, but all ages are welcome to fence.

 

8.  How do you sign up for lessons?

Contact the head coach or club president to discuss lesson format and availability.

 

9. How do you get on the collegiate team?

Team members are required to be undergraduate or graduate students with full NCAA eligibility.  Members who meet this eligibility  have two additional requirements:  WILLINGNESS TO WORK HARD, and SUPPORT THEIR TEAMMATES!
