University of Arizona meeting minutes
- The
ASU Prepharmacy Club will be going to UA to their prepharmacy club
meeting and getting a tour of the school on December 5th. We will be leaving around 2pm and
will have a carpool. If you’re
interested email Mark at hubhome@juno.com
- Application deadline for
UA is December 15th, 2005
- New admissions process,
everything is done online!!!
- The dean, Dr. Tong talked
about the pharmacist shortage and this is the time to think about
pharmacy school. He also talked
about the pharmacist needing to be on the “front line” with the new
Medicare D and the Flu shortage.
- The
UA school of pharmacy said they want to teach their student pharmacists
to have the best skills, competence, and knowledge so that when they are
pharmacist, they can “do the right thing.”
- Talked
about controversial issues like emergency contraceptive and assisted
suicide and how a pharmacist needs to “do the right thing.”
- Statistics
for admissions
- PCAT
needs to range from 70-99
- Competitive
GPA 3.64 and science 3.61
- The
minimum is a 3.0 to be considered and possibly accepted
- Calculus
grade is very important
- Letters
of evaluation: Should be someone that knows you really well, that can
evaluate what you’ve done. A
professor, pharmacist, pre-health advisor, and community service/church
advisor are the best choices to have write letters.
- It
is preferred that you have some health related job experience and
exposure to working with patients.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be work in the pharmacy, and
volunteer experience is good as well.
o
Written
essay will be required when at the school, it is a general theme. You are
graded for your ability to communicate.
o
Recommend practicing interviewing (mock interview)
o
The purpose of the interview is to assess the type of
person you are and how you solve problems and the steps you take.
o
Recommend listening to the question very carefully
- 1/3
of the applicants this year are re-applicants, so don’t be discouraged
if you don’t get in your first time around.
- The
school of pharmacy refers to their students as student pharmacist rather
than pharmacy students.
