Service

Omega Phi Alpha has a diverse, flexible service program which allows each member to contribute to the world around her. Many chapters have ongoing projects that they have worked with for years.

Service Areas

Six areas of service:

1. Permanent Project: The permanent project is Mental Health. Each semester we do a service project that tries to improve the mental health of ourselves and/or others. In Fall 2008 we participated in Memory Walk for Alzheimer's Disease. In Spring 2009 we are participating in Body Pride Week at ASU.

2. President's Project: Each year the Nation President of Omega Phi Alpha picks a project that they feel is very important. This year’s President’s Project is women's cancer awareness. For our Fall 2008 project, we listened to a speaker talk about cervical cancer prevention and awareness. In Spring 2009 we are participating in Relay for Life.

3. Service to the University Community: This project is where we focus on providing service giving back to the Arizona State University Community. In Fall 2008 we participated in ASU's Lantern Walk. In Spring 2009 we will be working in the ASU Arboretum during Devils in Disguise.

4. Service to the Community at Large: This project focuses on providing service to the greater Phoenix area community. In Fall 2008 we participated in the Little Pink Dress Project which raises money to help women get off the streets. In Spring 2009 we will be participating in a donation drive for Project Night-Night.

5. Service to the members of the sorority: For this project we give back to the sisters of our sorority. In Fall 2008 we celebrated our Founder's Week by having a dinner for our alumni. In Spring 2009 we are participating in our own self created project called Sorority Fit Club where sisters work out together, play sports, and eat healthy together all semester long.

6. Service to the nations of the world: This project focuses on providing service to the international community. In Fall 2009 we participated in Trick or Treat for UNICEF. In Spring 2009 we will be collecting old prom dresses to donate to an orphanage in Mexico.

Through these six areas of service, active and alumnae chapters plan a variety of service projects year each to carry out and make a difference.
