For Lizzy by: Hanna Ricketson
She popped her collar
as she stepped onto the floor
and busted a beat
into her fists,
hips shaking earthquake madness
sweat drenching sticky
elbows and songs
that don´t stop,
can´t stop,
won´t stop.
Hoop earrings swinging
as the book gets looped
and everybody´s body is
everybody´s body
and it´s like zion,
And god lives in the spaces
between lips and breasts
and hearts and chests
and that pause between the
boom cha boom
boom boom cha boom.
And it’s just dancing,
until legs become rivers
and sound ripples through her
pulling from her ears to her toes
until the only thing she knows
is music.
Until all that’s left
is her heart on
the floor.
