ASUIV ASSASSINS

The Game of Assassins: A Test of Stealth in Continuous Danger

By InterVarsity

Exclusively For the Students and Faculty of Arizona State University Tempe Campus

Games Beginning Wednesday September 13, 2006 at 12:00 AM.

In this game, players become both assassins and targets simultaneously. They will join a cell of fellow “assassins” and with their comrades are assigned to eliminate a target cell, whose members they try to find wherever they are in order to “assassinate” them using permitted harmless "weapons". All cell group members will also be pursued by a different group and if found can be "assassinated". The game is anticipated to be in play for approximately three weeks.

The objects of all assassins’ desire are bars of the Commissioner-Certified Pink Soap. When the game begins, each cell is given a certain number of bars of this Soap, and the cell is eliminated if its Soap stockpile is depleted. The group targeting an eliminated cell assumes that cell’s target. The last cell standing wins.

There are a number of ways to gain and to spend Soap. When a player is assassinated, two bars of Soap are transferred from the target’s cell to the assailant’s cell. Soap can also be gained through Commissioner-sanctioned Events, including midnight Soap drops and bounty hunting. It can also be spent to buy back deceased cell members and to buy inside information about opponent cells, among other uses.

Only Commissioner supplied and certified Soap can be used in this game.

Full Registration is only online at ASUIV.COM

The online sign up form must be used to transmit your information to the Commissioner. Incomplete or incorrect registration information will be reason to forfeit registration in this game.

A section of the asuiv.com website will be devoted to assassins with current standings, rules and up to date information.

The administrative fee for the game will be $1.50 per player. It is payable only through our Paypal account, found at asuiv.com, upon registration.

Once registered and approved all players will receive by email an “Assassin’s License” which must be printed. This is a very important document as it will serve as license to play and is required to be carried at all times during the duration of the game. If a player is “assassinated”, the License must be surrendered to the assailant. The License may also be requested for inspection at any time by the Inspector General, other agent of the Commissioner, or by an assassinated target to verify the legitimacy of an assassination.

Any player may cancel their participation in this game upon surrendering their Assassins License to the Commissioner or other authorized agent.

The official Rules will always be those posted here on www.asuiv.com. Edits and changes to the Rules for the current game will also be documented on www.asuiv.com.

The Objective: Eliminate Everyone and Take Their Soap

The last remaining cell group of assassins is the winner. Eliminating a cell grants the assailant’s group all of that group’s remaining soap, if any remains, with a guarantee of at least four bars, provided by the Commissioner if necessary.

Soap Is Points

The Commissioner’s Soap serves as transferable “points” and will be used as currency in this Game of Assassins. Each cell group will be given one bar of Commissioner-certified Soap for every group member at the cell’s creation. The group is responsible for protecting and transferring their stockpile of Soap during the duration of the game.

An “assassination” happens when an assassin successfully utilizes a “weapon” on another player under permitted circumstances as outlined in the Rules. When an assassination is made, the “dead” player’s group must ‘render’ tribute in the form of Soap to the Commissioner within 72 hours or as dictated by the Commissioner. Unprotected Soap may be taken by any playing assassin and added to their cell group’s stockpile and any assassins carrying Soap may be assassinated and the Soap taken from their group. Abstract points do not exist in this game. If you don’t have the Soap, you can’t win.

“Assassinate” other Assassins and Take All Their Soap

Upon cell formation, each assassin adds to their Assassins cell group stockpile their one (1) bar of the Commissioner’s pink Soap. For each ‘assassination” made on a targeted group, the assailing group will gain two (2) bars from the targeted group’s stockpile. Transfers will be made through the Commissioner. Groups can be eliminated either by assassinating all their players, or by assassinating enough of them to reduce their Soap stockpile to zero. When a group runs out of Soap, all their remaining players are “dead”. All cell groups’ stockpiles are subject to inspection on demand by the Commissioner, the Inspector General or other authorized agent.

When an assassination is made, the “dead” player must relinquish their Assassin’s License to the assailant or to a member of the assailant’s group as surety for the Soap to be paid in tribute. Within 72 hours, or as specified by the Commissioner, two (2) bars of the Commissioner’s Soap must be exchanged for the Assassin’s License held in surety by the opposing group. If the Soap transfer is not completed in the time specified, the assailant in possession of the License may present it to the Commissioner as evidence, which may incur penalties to the offending group up to and including Soap fines and placement on the Wanted List. All assassins will submit to the arbitration of the Commissioner or authorized agent in case of a dispute.

Any bars of the Commissioner’s Soap that are not in the possession of an assassin may be taken by any playing assassin and added to their cell’s stockpile.

Any Soap found to be carried by an assassin when assassinated is property of the assailant.

Upon assassinating another player, the assailant should solicit the Assassin’s License of the former assassin, in order to later exchange it for Soap in the Soap exchange which the Commissioner will arrange.

Only Certain Weapons Are Allowed

These weapons may be used:

Other “weapons”, “poisons”, or “traps” to be used must be approved by the Commissioner in writing.
Water guns are not permitted.

Assassinations Only of Approved Targets Are Appropriate

Permitted targets are:

At unspecified intervals, the Commissioner will organize soap drops on campus. They will often be accompanied by a hint. This soap is free-for-all in nature, and organized cell searching is encouraged. Be aware that assassins carrying this soap back to the cell’s stockpile will be Approved Targets for the duration of the transfer.
Assassins Cell Groups May Be Expanded During the Game

The Commissioner will assign each assassin to form part of a cell group. An effort will be made to honor individual’s assignment requests until 24 hours before the start of the game. Groups can be added to, without limit, as players invite others to join their group to help in the mission. Each new player must register with the Commissioner and be recognized in the game, but new players will not receive a bar of soap. Assassinations directly involving individuals that are not registered with the Commissioner or not carrying an Assassins’s License will be nullified, and action will be taken against the offending group for violating the Code of Honor.
Information Provided to Friend and Foe Must be Accurate

The identity information provided to the Commissioner will be given to fellow cell group members so they may contact each other. In addition, the information will also be given to the cell tasked with targeting each sequential group. Accurate information must be provided. If any information is found to be inaccurate, the offending player will forfeit participation in this Assassins game. Players must notify the Commissioner immediately if any information changes during the duration of the game, including changes to class schedules.

All Incidents Must Be Reported to Avoid Dire Penalties

Note that all individuals involved in an assassination, assassination attempt or any such incident should submit an incident report to the Commissioner. Selected reports will be published throughout the game. Assassins should use their pseudonym registered with the Commissioner in the report to avoid revealing their activities and game status to other assassins. At a minimum, an appropriate level of detail should be used such that the Commissioner can discern the important facts of the incident, and the known identities of those involved.

Inactivity for Seven Days is Reason to Become Wanted

Reporting incidents is crucial. Players that have not been reported to be involved in an assassination attempt for seven (7) days will immediately be placed on the Wanted List.

Players on Wanted List Become Potential Targets for All Other Cells

Assassins in violation of the Code of Honor may be immediately terminated or penalized up to and including being placed on the Wanted List. The Wanted List will be continuously published for targeting by any assassin or agent of the Commissioner. The “death” of a player on the Wanted List will not incur a soap payment from that player’s cell’s stockpile.

Inactivity is one of the primary reasons for being placed on the Wanted List. Inactive players are welcome to begin participating, and they will be removed from the Wanted List.

Players on the Wanted List are worth a bounty, and the Commissioner will grant Soap to the cell eliminating one of these players. The current bounty will be published on asuiv.com.

Despite the bounty, under no circumstances will a cell be allowed to assassinate its own members.

Stockpile Locations Must Be Made Known to the Commissioner

Groups must store all of their Soap in one location and update the Commissioner with the exact location, providing notification of location changes. Stockpile inspections may be requested at any time by the Inspector General.
Assassins May Enter the Commissioner’s Special Service

After being assassinated, or for those whose group runs out of Soap, an ‘afterlife’ may exist for worthy assassins. Former assassins can volunteer for the Commissioner’s Special Service, and may be trained to act as observers in Soap drops, take part in Soap confiscations, “assassinate” offending players found to be in grave violation of the Code of Honor, visit and inspect Soap stockpiles, and other perform other special tasks as required. In addition, Assassins cells may use the Soap to buy back “dead” assassins that have been taken into the Commissioner’s Special Service. Current resurrection rates will be published on asuiv.com.

“Dead” assassins that are not members of the Commissioner’s Special Service are no longer players in the game.

Some Areas are Off-Limits

No assassination attempts will be permitted on a target that is in class, in lab, etc. This will be strictly enforced as Assassins must not interfere with the academic environment of a college campus.

Note that no kills can be made on ‘Holy Ground’. This includes during prayer meetings and any InterVarsity activities. This also includes the so-called "Sabbath Day's Journey" buffer time of five (5) minutes before the beginning of the event and five minutes after the end, or the departure of the target, whichever happens first. Assassins having participated in such an event cannot eliminate a target during the assassin's buffer time.

No action that could be construed as “breaking and entering” will be permitted. Keep in mind that illegal trespassing, or breaking the law/code of conduct, is not sanctioned nor meant to be encouraged by this game.

The Code of Honor Encapsulates the Spirit of the Law

The Commissioner recognizes that the above rules can not cover all the possible situations in which assassins may find themselves. Therefore, the Code of Honor has been drafted to serve as a guide for times when the rules are silent or unclear.

For specific questions, or to report an injustice, directly contact the Commissioner or the Inspector General in a timely manner. The utmost effort will be expended to maintain your anonymity.

Any assassin found to be in violation of the Code of Honor may be penalized up to and including immediate termination from the game. Discretion and sound judgment should be used. Everyone is responsible for their actions.

Violation of any of the Rules of play will be deemed a violation of the Code of Honor.

If an assassin has knowledge about a breach of the Rules or the Code of Honor, or has knowledge of a planned breach, the Commissioner must be informed so that appropriate action may be taken in timely manner. Assassins privy to a violation or planned violation must report the incident as soon as possible.

All players are not allowed to harm or hurt anyone or anything, in any way.

Any actions that may result in bystander notification of the authorities should be avoided.

Using a weapon on anyone not playing or not a viable target as defined by the rules is a violation of the Code of Honor.

Playing assassins after having been assassinated, when not registered or approved by the commissioner is a violation of the Code of Honor for the cell group involved and the participating individual.
