Things to remember
when you travel.
Please check the new
travel advisory for complete information. The information
below is only a quick reference guide. This is being
provided as a helpful tool only and the Indian Students
Association is not responsible for the accuracy of any
information provided here or elsewhere. For any clarifications,
or questions, visit the International Students Office

If you travel outside the U.S., you need
the following documents to return to the U.S. in student
or exchange visitor status:
a) ASU I-20 with recent signature (less than 6 months
old) on page 4, or a new I-20 if applicable; J-1 students
need a valid IAP-66/DS-2019 with recent signature on
back of pink copy, or a new IAP-66/DS-2019 if applicable
b) Passport, valid 6 months into the future
c) Valid F-1 or J-1 visa in your passport. (See related
immigration update below)
d) Financial guarantee
e) ASU unofficial transcript showing registration for
current and, if applicable, the coming semester
f) Transcripts and I-20's from all former schools to
document your history as a full-time student
g) ISO Exception form- Only if you received ISO approval
for an exception to the full-course-of-study requirement
in a given semester
Note: Immigration inspectors at the port
of entry may not ask to see items d-g but we recommend
that you carry them with you when you travel abroad.
If you plan to travel to a country other
than your own, you should contact the Consulate of that
country to find out if you need a visa. The ISO has
a web address of foreign consulates in the U.S. You
can also access it through the State Government website

If you are planning to renew your expired
student visa you must apply early and expect delays.
Consult individual embassy websites for periodic updates
on country-specific visa processing. Lists of US Embassies
abroad can be accessed to through this website

When traveling within the U.S. outside the local area,
you may be asked by an officer of the Border Patrol
to show your immigration documents. Be sure you have
your documents with you; keep them in a safe place so
as not to misplace them or have them stolen from your
car.
Immigration update on "Automatic Revalidation"
for visiting Canada, Mexico and the neighbouring islands.
If you are a citizen of Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan,
North Korea, and Cuba, you cannot re-enter the US without
a valid visa after a visit to Mexico, Canada or the
adjacent islands other than Cuba. "Automatic revalidation"
is not applicable to you whether you are just visiting
for business/pleasure or applying for a new visa in
teh "contiguous territory" (Mexico, Canada
or the adjacent islands other than Cuba
If you apply for a new visa while in contiguous territory
and DENIED, you will not be allowed to re-enter the
US.. "Automatic revalidation" will not apply
if your purpose in going to the US is to apply for a
visa.
"Automatic revalidation" will only apply if
you are not from one of the 7 countries listed and your
purpose in visiting the contiguous territory is business
or pleasure and it is not more than 30 days.
