Arizona State University
Founded in 1885 as a territorial normal school in Tempe, Arizona State University (ASU) had its start as a four-room building, constructed on a former cow pasture, with one faculty member and 33 students-all working to become teachers for Arizona's public schools.

Today, ASU is internationally known for its more than 100 high-quality academic and research programs offered through a multi-campus setting. Today, ASU is the largest university in Arizona and the major producer of graduates in the state. Nearly 50,000 students from all states and more than 120 countries enroll at ASU each year, bringing their diverse thoughts, cultures and backgrounds to the university's scholarly environment. Every year nearly 10,000 students graduate from ASU. ASU was awarded the prestigious Research I (now referred to as Research/Doctoral Universities-Extensive) university status in 1994, recognizing ASU as a premier research institution.
