Diwali Celebrations

Diwali was celebrated on Friday, October 24 at the Arizona Ballroom in the Memorial Union. The event was free with catering provided at a discounted rate by Royal Taj. The evening began with a traditional Lakshmi Puja followed by a fashion show organized by Sirisha, Sanaja and Suraj. There was a great round of musical bingo where the tunes being played corresponded with numbers in a songlist. The main event of the evening was the dance with the music being played by DJ Isaac. With great hindi and punjabi numbers, everyone danced like crazy through the evening! A great event which was liked by all. Here are a few responses we received:

Subject: thank you and congratulations!

Dear Prashant and the ISA Committee,
A big congratulation to the very successful ISA celebration of Deepavali 2004! The Rangoli contest brought out the artistic best and amazing creativity of the contestants and the finished work of art were all winners in their own right! The fashion show participants ramped away with such grace and elegance you would think they are real pros! The musical bingo brought a lot of fun and excitement to the crowd. And of course you chose the best way to close the festivity by dancing the night away.
My sincerest appreciation for inviting me to celebrate Deepavali with you this year and again, congratulations to ISA for another job well done!

Independence Day Celebrations

Independence day was celebrated on Hayden Lawn on Friday morning. Around 30 students turned out along with Dr. Nemi Jain. The website was supposed to be launched on the same day, but a blackout and a cable failure put those plans to rest. The website is up now and we welcome any suggestions or comments you may have. Rants are fine and you could also give us a pat on the back to give us the warm and fuzzy feeling.

Message from Ms. Joy White, ISO

To Pankaj and the ISA Committee:

Please accept my congratulations on your recent sucessful event, the Swar-Sangam. It continues to amaze me how your group can organize a fantastic event knowing your hectic work and academic schedules. This speaks so much of your leadership and your sense of community.

And the pool of talent that you have ------ makes me wonder how the performers beautifully blended engineering and music together! It makes me so proud of you as one of our international student group on campus.

Thank you for the opportunity of sharing your beautiful culture through your song and dances. For me, it was a very enriching experience and I am sure that for your community, the Indian students, it goes beyond that --- it gives them the feel of being home away from home.

Congratulations to the ISA and my best regards.
