Q: What are the requirements and
responsibilities of Gamma Beta Phi members?
A:
To be invited to the Society, a student must be ranked in the top 15% of
their class; however, to remain a member a 3.25 cumulative GPA is required.
Our members are responsible for obtaining a total of eight (8) merit points per
semester. Each meeting is worth one (1) point and each hour of
community service is also worth one (1) point. The service projects one
chooses to fulfill their requirements may be done either on an individual
basis or with the
society. Lastly, members are responsible for annual dues in the amount of $15.00,
which are payable each semester.

Q: How many merit points are required per
semester?
A:
Members need to earn a total of eight (8) merit points per semester. Six (6)
of the eight points are service points. Service projects may be
completed on your own or with the Gamma Beta Phi chapter. Members will earn
one (1) service point for every hour of service completed. All service
projects must be recorded on the official
Gamma Beta Phi Log Form.
The remaining two (2) points are meeting points.
Members will receive
one (1) point per
meeting OR meeting equivalent, such as a social event or fundraiser. Members
MUST sign in on the sign-in sheet at each meeting or approved event AND record the meeting they
attended on the official
Gamma Beta Phi Log Form
in order to receive credit.
Members with incomplete merit points (service and meetings) will be placed on probation.

Q: What happens if I don't maintain my 3.25
GPA?
A: You will be placed on probation upon which
you have one semester to return your GPA to acceptable levels. After that,
if your GPA is not above a 3.25, you may be removed from Gamma Beta Phi by
the Executive Board.

Q: What do I do if I'm put on probation?
A: Any member on probation must fulfill the same requirements with an
additional six (6) hours of community service as well raising their GPA to
an acceptable level, completing the required amount of service hours,
attending the sufficient amount of meetings, and paying their dues if they have defaulted on them. If a member is placed on probation more than once during membership, this
may be grounds for removal from Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society and loss of the
privileges granted therein.

Q: Which types of service projects will count
toward my Gamma Beta Phi merit points?
A:
Any service projects that Gamma Beta Phi sends out to the members through
the Yahoo! Group ListServ will count toward Gamma Beta Phi merit points.
Service projects may be completed on your own or with the Gamma Beta Phi
chapter, whether it be on or off campus.
ALL service hours must be completed during the semester for
which you wish to receive merit points. For example, service hours turned in for Spring
2005 merit points must have been completed during Spring 2005, not
during the
semester before and not over winter break. The same goes for hours completed
in the summer if you wish to apply them for Fall merit points - doing
community service outside of the school year is encouraged, but it won't earn
you merit points in Gamma Beta Phi.
Please remember: all service and meeting points must be recorded
on the official Gamma
Beta Phi Log Form. Activities such as babysitting for a neighbor for
free or getting paid or compensated with gifts for service WILL NOT count.
If you are uncertain whether or not an activity counts, please contact the
Community Service Chair.

Q: How often are GBPhi meetings held?
A:
We have a set of regular member meetings once a month,
usually held in the late afternoons/early evenings on various days and
times. We alternate days and times as much as possible to give everybody a
chance to make two of the meetings required each semester.

Q: How do I submit my log form at the end of
each semester?
A: You can submit your log
form in one of the following ways: 1) e-mail it to the Community Service
Chair, 2)
submit it to an officer at any meeting up to the due date of the log form,
or 3) put it in the GBPhi mailbox in the SORC on the 3rd floor of the
Memorial Union (MU) Building (Main Campus) by the due date.

Q: What if I can't make it to the required
number of meetings per semester?
A. We offer meetings in sets so that people
will have every chance to make the required number of meetings per
semester. We also have numerous other events which will count as meetings
such as social events, fundraisers, and special service projects. You have
the option of using these events to make up for a missed meeting. If you do
not fulfill the two (2) meeting point requirement per semester, you will be
placed on probation. You then have to perform an additional six (6) hours
of community service AND all other requirements of members in good standing
during the next semester in order to return to good standing.

Q: What does it take to become an officer in
Gamma Beta Phi?
A: Dedication! We expect our officers to
support us at every meeting possible and at each of our socials,
fundraisers, and events. It is extremely important to have a presence
with
our members. They need to know we will be there for them when they need us
and that they're getting just as much out of Gamma Beta Phi as they put into
it. Some offices are extremely independent, while others require teamwork. ALL
offices require an immense amount of communication with the President, Vice
President, and other pertinent officers. If you would like to read
more about the responsibilities of each officer, please visit the
contacts page.
Elections are held each spring for the following school year.
