Devils in Disguise: April 15,
2005
As
part of the campus-wide day of community service (known as
Devils in Disguise), almost 50 volunteers from Gamma Beta
Phi came together to work with the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul. In four hours' time, the day's legion of volunteers
turned a weather-beaten courtyard into a beautiful meeting
place for the residents of the halfway house Ozanam Manor,
all the while preparing and serving food to the residents
living there.
At the Watkins Avenue
Campus, a division of the volunteer group worked with SVDP
staff members in preparing mailings and performing other
various office tasks.
At the end of the day, all
of our hard work paid off, especially when we saw the smiles
on the faces of those we had served. Even four hours of work
can make a world of difference in the lives of those in
need; that was one of many lessons volunteers learned on
this day of service.
