About us

"Friends of Internationals" (FOI) is a student organization that was established in 1984 at Arizona State University by its founder, Ben Joseph. The goal of FOI is to help all international students at ASU make a smooth transition to living in the United States during their studies. The volunteer team of FOI strives to meet the needs of these students, including transportation for shopping or doctor visits, providing tour events so that the student can experience Arizona, creating social opportunities to make new friends, and offering whatever encouragement we can as these students are far from their home country and family.

Our Activities

Our activities can be categorized into the following areas:

1)

Enable international students to have a smooth transition to living in the United States. Some activities to achieve this objective are:

  • Picking up students from the airport.
  • Assistance with shopping.
  • Conversational English classes for people intending to practise their English.

    2)

Encourage students to find that there is more to life than studies. We endeavour to achieve this through social activities:

  • Hiking trips.
  • Holiday events.
  • Game nights.

    3)

Encounters that are spiritual: Prompt students to think about significant spiritual issues such as

  • Is there a God? Can I know Him?
  • Is there forgiveness?
  • Is there life after death?
