Who We Are

Turn and turning in the widening gyre

The falcon cannot hear the falconer;

Things fall apart; the center cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity.

Our world seems to contort, almost daily, into a different shape.  And yet, many of the storylines being written draw their ink from years ago.  We are in an age of immense uncertainty but a time of unimaginable possibility.  Whirling change, instantaneous demand and increasing confusion have loosened the ground that holds us.

The Episcopal Church seeks to be a center; a place that will hold.   We believe that what is deepest in each person is the image of God.  We seek to be a place of welcome, of hospitality and of rest.  Our worship revolves around the breaking of bread and drinking of wine. Through this ritual we are reminded of our own humanity and “couraged” to be a people of hope in a world of fear. There are a variety of Episcopal churches near ASU’s campus.  Although distinct in culture and style, they are united by the beauty of common liturgy and Eucharist (communion).  Please visit any of our churches.  We hope you will find just the right place to call your worshiping home.

Episcopal Campus Ministries has developed a very specific identity and role at ASU.  Drawing from our rich heritage of gathering around the table, we focus on bringing people together. As a religious leader on campus, Chaplain Teri Murphy has developed curriculum, designed programs, created outreach opportunities and facilitated small groups that invite people towards deeper reverence for the sacredness of life.   “Religion” holds an intrinsic power to be a destructive force or a regenerative agent in our world.  Yet it is not religious ritual, symbol or even sacred texts that prompt people of faith in one direction or the other.  Ultimately, those choices are made in the heart.

In all that we do, ECM seeks to bring challenge and nurture to the spiritual lives of students, faculty and staff at ASU.  If you are interested in being involved – either as a participant or as a leader, we’d love for you to join us.
