Awards

All papers will go through a blind review process and the top papers will be selected for presentation at the symposium. All papers accepted for presentation will be printed in a compendium of papers. The symposium presentations will also be reviewed. The best paper will receive a $300 award. There are also cash awards of $150 for the best poster and best presentation.

About the Symposium

Students at Arizona State University are encouraged to participate in this annual symposium, which allows students to present the findings of their research. Papers are welcome on all Engineering and Applied Sciences related topics, including Bioengineering, Chemical & Materials Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, School of Construction, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Education in Engineering, and Science and Engineering of Materials. New this year, students in the applied sciences fields such as Chemistry, Geology, Physics, Astronomy, and Mathematics are all welcome to submit papers for REAS'05. We especially welcome papers from Masters and entry-level doctoral students who can use this symposium as a stepping stone for their professional presentation abilities and also experience the process of submitting a technical paper to a peer reviewed conference. The symposium will be an excellent opportunity to encourage interdisciplinary research and get feedback from other members of the Engineering & Applied Sciences community.

Three options exist for those graduate students interested in presenting their research at REAS'05:

  1. Submit a full paper and present it orally at the REAS'05 Symposium.
  2. Submit only a presentation without a paper and present it orally at the REAS'05 (abstract submission is still required).
  3. Submit only a poster without a paper and participate in the poster session at REAS'05 (abstract submission is still required).

Upon receipt of abstracts (due July 1) the REAS'05 Symposium committee will accept or reject participants based on the suitability of the work to engineering and applied science fields.  Accepted abstracts will then go on to produce either a full length paper, a presentation, or a poster - at the choice of the author.  Completed paper/presentation/poster must be submitted by August 5th, at which time the judges will review the submitted material (paper, poster, or presentation); the judges' comments and suggestions on revisions will be sent to the authors.  Camera-ready final materials, ready for publishing, are due September 19th.

Papers

By July 1st, 2005 authors must submit an abstract containing only the title, and a 200 word (max.) abstract. Refer to the schedule above for requirements of the final completed paper submission.

The paper must be limited to 6 US letter pages or less (minimum of 2 pages)  in double-column, single-space format, and should describe either completed or ongoing work. Please submit papers in PDF format only. The content of the paper should describe previously unpublished research results or empirical evaluations of current systems. Reviewers will accept papers based on relevance, significance, originality, clarity, and technical merit. Please do not submit product marketing material or material that is previously published or under review elsewhere. We encourage submissions of work-in-progress papers.

An ideal paper should have: Title, List of Authors with email addresses, Abstract, Introduction, Motivation (optional), Sections related to your contribution (or work-in-progress), Diagrams and Graphs, Results (or expected Results), Related Work, Conclusions, References
