12-13          Art History Conference:  Going Global:  A 360 View of A Tradition Redefined

                    Phoenix Art Museum

In conjunction with Phoenix Art Museum's exhibition, "A Tradition Redefined," this conference will consider the role of tradition in a contemporary art world. Scholars from the U.S. and Taiwan discuss topics ranging from the cultural tradition of Chinese scholar-artists and issues of content and message in art in Communist China, to emerging questions about diversity and originality when Chinese art goes global. A Western art historian further comments on the way art history perceives and teaches Asian art. The event concludes with a personal perspective from the collector and scholar, Dr. Chu-tsing Li, whose life has spanned the tumultuous cultural and political events of the 20th century.

                  This lecture series brings to the Phoenix community both established and emerging women ceramic artists.

 

17             Nadia Hironaka: The Late Show

                 11am.  Artist Conversation with Nadia Hironaka, in conjunction with the exhibition.

                  7-9pm.  Opening Reception.

14                Qualifying Paper / 15 Hour Paper Workshop hosted by Dr. Betsy Fahlman

Art History MA students are required to submit a qualifying paper to demonstrate that they are ready to begin thesis work after completing 15 hours of coursework;  the deadline for this fall is October 1, 2007.  This workshop will help explain how to fulfill this requirement.  From 11:30am, ART 246.
